Welcome to my blog — I’m so glad you’re here!
Launching this platform has given me space to reflect on what authentic growth really means to me. One theme has stood out again and again: goals are never as linear as they look. Years ago, I thought achieving something was about going from point A to point B. But life doesn’t work that way. Instead, there is a ripple effect of growth.
Every goal we set out to achieve, creates a ripple. That one decision almost always influences other areas of life — sometimes in obvious ways, other times quietly in the background. Knowing this has solidified my belief that personal growth of any kind must be looked at holistically.
The Wheel of Life
In life coaching, there’s a powerful personal development tool called the Wheel of Life. Imagine a pie chart where each slice represents an area of your life: health, relationships, finances, career, spirituality, education, community. The wheel helps you see what’s balanced or thriving and what’s not.
I see it as more than an assessment. To me, it’s a reminder that all areas of life are connected. Change one, and the others shift. That ripple effect can either support your progress or challenge it.
Here are three ways those ripples usually show up.
1. Habits and Routines
Goals reshape daily life and these small changes, in turn, influence other habits.
- Deciding to exercise regularly affects your energy and food choices.
- Committing to study impacts your social life, employment, and financial priorities.
- Preparing for a dream job pushes you to re-evaluated your personal brand and career path.
2. Relationships and Environment
In the same way a plant needs the right conditions to thrive, you need an environment that supports your growth.
The people closest to you shape your outlook, motivation, and opportunities. If your circle doesn’t reflect the life you want, moving forward can feel like swimming upstream.
Your physical environment matters too. Toxic relationships, poor living conditions, or being in the wrong location can quietly hold you back.
Sometimes success means letting go of what no longer serves you.
3. Identity and Confidence
Goals don’t just create external change — they reshape who you believe yourself to be.
Every step forward builds identity: from “I’m trying” to “I am.” With identity comes confidence, and confidence opens new doors you may not have considered pursuing before.
Te Araroa
When I walked 3000 km along Te Araroa in 2010, I saw firsthand how a single goal reshapes every part of life.
What began as a desire to explore New Zealand turned into a journey that demanded more of me than I expected. To walk from Cape Reinga to Bluff, I had to adjust everything — my fitness, my mindset, my finances, even my relationships.
Some areas of my life weren’t ready for the challenge. I struggled to manage money on the road, and my social circle shrank down to one friend who became my closest confidant as we shared a tent for 171 days.
By the time we reached Bluff, I realised I wasn’t the same person who had set out months earlier. I hadn’t just walked the length of New Zealand — I had walked into a new identity. That journey taught me that growth is never about one achievement alone. Each step ripples outward, shaping who you are and what you believe is possible.
Your Ripple Effect of Growth
You never know where a single goal might take you and I challenge you to make space for the journey of growth that is possible within you. Take a moment to look at your own Wheel of Life. Are you truly satisfied in every area? Or is there space to grow?
Don’t get locked into the overwhelm. Start small. Start with one goal and notice the ripples it creates. Let them be your guide, instead of a distraction.
Each of us has a unique purpose. When we step into our full potential — living authentically and intentionally — we make the world better, one ripple at a time.
I’m here on a mission: empowering authentic growth. Let’s take things one step at a time. I would love to hear where you are at in your journey — drop me a line here or on my socials. I’d love to hear from you!
What’s one small change you could make today that might create ripples in other parts of your life?
